FingerPaints Picnic in the Park... Picnic Blanket

it's snowing again! i'm so very ready for Spring. had a great meeting with another saddle fitter who reps for Black Country and she has a demo saddle that i think will work for Echo with a little tweaking. it's dark brown with royal blue piping, so not what i would have picked... but it's basically a new saddle for almost $1000 less than the cost of a new saddle! PLUS, Mr. Pawlish surprised me by taking the rest of the week off for muh birthday! so, the snow's not harshing my mellow :)

today i have Picnic Blanket from FingerPaints Picnic in the Park collection to share! (it's a press sample, kindly provided to me for review). this glitter is perfectly named, it's red and white square pieces suspended in a clear base... definitely gets you thinking of your traditional picnic blanket! it's absolutely adorable. sadly, like every other large glitter i have tried, it's quite difficult to work with. you must dab with the brush carefully and place the pieces, it absolutely will not flow off the brush. to get the most pieces, hold the bottle upside down with the brush in it before each nail. with dabbing and placing, you will get air bubbles. that said, i used it over FingerPaints Frosty Lemonade (press sample) and it makes the cutest mani... makes me think of picnic food! i just wish it was more user friendly. definitely add top coat to help your mani dry as you will most likely have a thick layer of polish!

one coat Picnic Blanket over one coat FingerPaints Frosty Lemonade, finished off with one coat Salon Perfect High-Shine Top Coat.

FingerPaints polishes are sold exclusively at Sally Beauty Supply and their website  www.SallyBeauty.com

so excited to have Mr. Pawlish home for the rest of the week... it's an awesome birthday present! Ria :)

FingerPaints Picnic in the Park... Frosty Lemonade

today's a riding a lesson day... i probably wouldn't go if i didn't have a lesson, it's only 27F! the snow is so frozen outside that Jewels, my 40 pound dog, doesn't even sink down into it... i think that's just crazy. and... we might be getting more snow this week! i know places farther north have gotten way more snow, but, this is wayyy more than enough for me.

i'm super excited to start sharing the FingerPaints Picnic in the Park polishes with you today... i love how bright and cheery this collection is, i'm so looking forward to Spring! today's polish is Frosty Lemonade, a warm toned yellow creme. (it's a press sample, kindly provided to me for review). like a lot of yellows, it can be a touch patchy. i'm quite happy with how it looks at three coats, nice and opaque! you can get away with two coats, but you may have a few spots where the polish looks a bit thin. it has a shine on its own, but is even better with topcoat!

three coats Frosty Lemonade, one coat Salon Perfect High-Shine Top Coat.

FingerPaints polishes are sold exclusively at Sally Beauty Supply and their website  www.SallyBeauty.com

tomorrow is supposed to be the warmest day this week... i hope the weather comes through because i'm meeting with a saddle fitter that reps for a company i'm interested in. it definitely feels colder when you're mostly standing around! warm thoughts!! Ria :)

Skindinavia The Makeup Primer and Finishing Sprays in Oil Control

this post has been a long time coming... i've been waiting for Skindinavia to have a really good deal before i posted, and it's here! today and tomorrow you can get free shipping with any order (in the US and Canada, over $40 internationally) PLUS, travel size bottles of both The Makeup Primer Spray in Oil Control AND The Makeup Finishing Spray in Oil Control.

here's the banner from the Skindinavia website!

on to the sprays themselves!

i took a picture of them jammed into the snow turned ice... we've got about 8 inches on the ground now!

i received The Makeup Primer Spray in both Original and Oil Control in a travel size awhile ago as a press sample, and i fell madly in love :) i definitely found using the Oil Control version helped keep my oil down, and both helped my makeup stay put all day. read the original post HERE! i was completely sold and immediately ordered both Oil Control sprays in the largest size.

these sprays are absolutely fantastic for priming and then setting your makeup... i use them absolutely every time i wear makeup. i much prefer using a spray to a traditional primer, i've found it to prolong my makeup more and i love the ease of just spritzing it on. it doesn't fill in pores, but sometimes i think it makes them slightly less noticeable. use The Makeup Primer Spray after your moisturizer/sunscreen to prep for your makeup!

once you're finished with your makeup application (although i recommend spraying before mascara because sometimes a wet face will cause your mascara to transfer!), use The Makeup Finishing Spray! you can stop there, or if you prefer a matte face, dust a little translucent powder on top. it doesn't give you a super shiny face, so i alternate between matte and glowy depending on how i'm feeling that day :)

i find that using these sprays makes my makeup not only look better initially, but also last substantially longer. i use them with all brands of makeup, and haven't found any they don't work with! also, if i'm going on a day trip and want to apply makeup after leaving home, i will bring just the The Makeup Primer Spray and find it does double duty quite well.

you can find all Skindinavia products on their website, www.Skindinavia.com. let me know if you've tried these and how you like them... or if you plan on trying them now!

Happy Monday! Ria :)

China Glaze at NYFW! (Press Release)

i've got a fun press release from China Glaze to share today! find out their looks from two different designer's shows :D hope you enjoy!

CHINA GLAZE® RIDES THE NEW YORK FASHION WEEK WAVE WITH NOVIS

(The finished China Glaze® manicure at the Novis show; Photos courtesy of ©MatthewCarasella/SocialShutterbug.com; OK for Reprint)

Los Angeles (February 2015) –The runway was awash in watercolor shades with pops of bold blues and purples at the Fall/Winter 2015 Novis presentation during Mercedes’ Benz New York Fashion Week.  Casey Herman for China Glaze® created a two-toned “S” shaped design using light blue crème Kinetic Candy, bold green crème Shore Enuff, and true black Liquid Leather to perfectly complement the colours and design accents of the collection.

Design Inspiration:
Herman was immediately drawn to the wavy ruffles and patterns in Novis designer Jordana Warmflash’s collection when it came time to design the nails. “The waves and colors reminded me of the ocean. The China Glaze® shades – a mix of black, soft blue and green – captured the ocean during the autumn time, a little moodier and stark. The black wavy stripe across the nail captured the feeling of movement and made the wave bolder and more abstract, like a piece of artwork.  I created this design so it was interesting without being distracting, as well as complemented all looks in the collection.”

China Glaze® Product Used:
Ridge Filler Base Coat
Kinetic Candy
Shore Enuff
Fast Forward Top Coat

How To:
  1. Apply one coat of Ridge Filler Base Coat to clean, filed nails
  2. Next, apply two coats of Kinetic Candy
  3. Using a thin striping brush, create a “S” shape across the nail using Liquid Leather
  4. On the side of nail closest to the tip, fill in with Shore Enuff. TIP: Use striping brush to get the polish as close to the edge of the “S” shape as possible, then polish brush to fill in the rest
  5. Finish with Fast Forward Top Coat

CHINA GLAZE® CREATES STUNNING STRIPES FOR DEGEN FALL/WINTER 2015

(The finished China Glaze® manicure at the DEGEN show; Photos courtesy of ©MatthewCarasella/SocialShutterbug.com; OK for Reprint)

Los Angeles (February 2015) –Everyone was seeing stripes at the DEGEN presentation during Fall/Winter 2015 Mercedes’ Benz New York Fashion Week.  Casey Herman for China Glaze® created a plethora of graphic lines in a variety of new and core shades to complement the wildly colorful creations.

Design Inspiration:
DEGEN’s collection concept was rainbow thread so Herman created an interpretation for the nails. Lindsay’s collections are always so bright and fun but she puts a lot of thoughtfulness into her concept so Herman created a fun look that also had meaning. Thread is literally the base and starting point of fashion, and figuratively humanity is a common thread in us all.

“For the striped nails I mixed and matched China Glaze® colours to reflect the many variations of thread in the world,” said Herman. “I gave all the models accent nails of the same colors to pull all the nail looks together with a ‘common thread’.  We didn’t want to forget the male models and gave them a bold single tonal stripe to again reflect the ‘common thread’ theme.  I love the idea of individuality but that we are also all part of humanity; that’s why all the nails are different but relate to each other.”

China Glaze® Products Used:
Ridge Filler Base Coat
Daisy Know My Name? (NEW for Summer 2015)
Treble Maker (NEW for Summer 2015)
Boho Blues
Paper Chasing
First Mate
Out Like A Light
Awaken
Dashboard Dreamer
Trip of a Lime Time
Pop the Trunk
Wanderlust
Liquid Leather
Fast Forward Top Coat

How To:
  1. Apply one coat of Ridge Filler Base Coat to clean, filed nails
  2. Next, apply two coats of the lightest shade, Daisy Know My Name?
  3. Using a thin striping brush, create a line down the center of nail using Liquid Leather
  4. Continue creating stripes alternating shades and thickness, being sure to leave space between to reveal base colour
  5. Finish with Fast Forward Top Coat

Salon Perfect Cosmic Dust

spent most of the day dealing with medical shtuff... not fun, but necessary! the NWS said that the roads might be dangerous this evening so i stayed home from the barn (plus, i was exhausted)... and wouldn't you know it, nothing so far! it's supposed to be SUPER cold the next two days, so i'm planning on staying close to home. hope it's warmer where you are :)

today i have Salon Perfect Cosmic Dust to share with you all! it's a super finely milled holographic glitter suspended in a clear base. it's very reminiscent of China Glaze Fairy Dust, although i don't think they are exact matches. i will probably do a comparison post on them (and maybe some other similar polishes!) in the future. it applies pretty easily with no placing, and just a little bit of going over to get the particles even. i think the key to getting even coverage is to try and get the same amount of polish on the brush for each nail. i put Cosmic Dust over Pixi Amethyst Amore (press sample) which made it look like the night sky to me... i love them together! definitely finish off with topcoat to bring out all the sparklies :D

one coat Cosmic Dust over two coats Pixi Amethyst Amore (press sample), finished off with Salon Perfect High-Shine Top Coat.

you can find Salon Perfect products at Walmart stores and Walmart.com!

hope you are all having great weeks... and if not, it's Wednesday, you're on the downhill slide! Ria :)

Pixi February 2015 Makeup Samples Swatches and Reviews!

we got a few inches of snow here last night, which is enough to freak everyone out enough to stay off the roads... plus, it's super cold so no barn today. i'm thinking i probably won't get there all week because it's supposed to be freezing all week... with possibly more snow! miss California more and more, i tell ya!

it's time for my favorite makeup sample box for bloggers from Pixi for February! (all products are samples, kindly provided to me for review). this one included a new skincare product which i love! the products are... Glow Mist, Tinted Brilliance Balm in Lucent Glow, and Fairy Dusts in Olive Gold and Silver Glow.

here's a look at the packaging!

and the products themselves...

first up... the Glow Mist with Propolis & Argan Oil! i have never tried any Pixi skincare type products, so i was delighted to receive this in my box :) i'm also a huge fan of spray products for the face and use them daily. this product separates into two liquids which need to be shaken up and mixed before use, similar to eye makeup removers that contain oil. it's chock full of different types of oils, so i'm sure that's why! Glow Mist has a light citrusy herbal smell which is quite refreshing, and absorbs quickly into my skin in these dry winter days. i have slight burning/tingling when i use it (but it doesn't last very long) because i use the strongest prescription retinoid product on the market daily, so my skin is pretty sensitive to anything with citrus. personally, that doesn't bother me as i use grapefruit products nightly (talk about BURNING) but it's something to keep in mind if you use retinoids.

next we have the two Pixi Fairy Dusts. Silver Glow is a rich pewter color and Olive Gold is exactly what its name suggests... a green toned golden color! i love that Fairy Dusts pigments have an applicator... it just makes them so much more user friendly!

swatches :)

Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm in Lucent Glow is one i had actually purchased for myself last year, it's really pretty! it leaves lips with a nice sheen and subtle pink sparkles. it has a slight scent that really reminds me of tea... not sure what it is!

here's Lucent Glow on the lips.

you can find Pixi products at Target stores, www.Target.com, and www.PixiBeauty.com!!

hope you're warm where you are! Ria :)

Pixi Color of the Month... Amythest Amore

have i mentioned i hate saddles!? turns out, the saddle i just bought doesn't fit Echo after all... so now i'm back on the hunt, plus i need to sell this one! *sigh* it's pretty exhausting!

today i have Pixi's February 2015 Color of the Month to share, Amythest Amore! (it's a press sample, kindly provided to me for review). this polish is a deep blue creme that actually makes me think of Lapis more than Amythest, but there is a hint of purple in the bright sun. it applies like most Pixis... one thick coat would work, but i prefer two medium coats! it's shiny on its own, but really comes to life with a high shine topcoat.

two coats Amythest Amore, one coat Salon Perfect High-Shine Top Coat.

Pixi polishes retail for $8. you can find Pixi products at Target stores, www.Target.com, and www.PixiBeauty.com!! Amazing Amythest is a limited edition shade that will only be available at PixiBeauty.com while supplies last... so make sure to order soon if it's something you're interested in it :) this is the direct link to the Pixi Beauty Nail Colour page!

next up... February's Pixi makeup blogger sample swatches! Ria :)

Salon Perfect Haul!

i had some errands to run this morning which included Walmart... so you know i had to hit up the Salon Perfect aisle! i found some fun stuff, which i decided to share with you as i haven't done a haul post in forever :) i tell you... i'm the most accident prone i've ever met! i managed to squoosh my pointer in the shopping cart while there... dang, that HURT. i went and got a cup of ice and wandered Walmart with my finger stuck in there... still can't believe i did that!

the things i have to share were bought over a couple trips... and one polish i think i got last year, but it hasn't made it to the blog yet!

i am running out of Salon Perfect Crystal Clear Top Coat, which was sent to me as a press sample and has completely won me over as the best topcoat! i originally planned to pick up another bottle of it, but i saw that Salon Perfect has come out with a new set called The Manicure System so i just had to try it. the topcoat it comes with is different, so i'm excited to see how it stacks up to the Crystal Clear! there will definitely be a review forthcoming, once i've had time to really test it out :)

and here's the polishes i bought! i love that Salon Perfect has some matte glitters combos. i got the holographic microglitter to compare to the infamous China Glaze Fairy Dust (it's the last photo in the post!). it looks quite similar, so i can't wait to see how close they look on the nail.

hope you enjoyed this little bit of haulage :D coming up next will be this month's Pixi Color of the Month and their blogger sample box... it's awesome, as always!

Happy Monday! Ria :)

FingerPaints Picnic in the Park Press Release

i'm super excited to share this FingerPaints press release with you all... the collection looks adorable! i'm certainly ready for Spring, and this collection just makes me think of being outside in the sun... in lovely weather :)

not sure why that last part got cut off, it's cut off in my original, too! my day was great... i decided on a saddle and i went on a trail ride in perfect weather. doesn't get much better than that! Ria :)

Deborah Lippmann Just Dance

have a jump lesson today, going to test out the saddle i have on trial... hoping it works! i will definitely be glad when i'm finished shopping for saddles... sadly, once i find a jump saddle i will have to start working on a dressage one! i truly had no idea saddle shopping/fitting was so intense. or maybe since i'm a bit neurotic, i make it more intense than it needs to be ;)

today i have Deborah Lippmann Just Dance to share with you all! this is my first review of a Deborah Lippmann, i hadn't purchased any until now because they retail for $20 and i try and have limits :D i scored three at a Marshalls for six or seven bucks apiece! definitely worth it. i was a bit bummed they were all glitters, but decided to give them a go anyway. Just Dance is amazing teal stuffed with microglitter and small glitter pieces. it's so densely packed i can't even tell if the glitter is suspended in a clear or sheer turquoise base! it applies so easily and smoothly! i think you could get this opaque on its own, but i used two coats over a blue creme base. i could have just used the one, but if i looked closely it was slightly patchy so i added another... and i'm so glad i did because it took the look up from lovely to smack yo' mama gorgeous! definitely add topcoat to seal in the manicure and bring out all the shinies :)

two coats Just Dance over Probelle Into The Blue, finished off with one coat Salon Perfect Crystal Clear Top Coat (press sample).

it's a bit more teal and rich than the picture shows... my camera just hates these colors and i always forget that until i'm sitting down trying to edit! i adjusted the color some, which is why my fingers are all crazybus orange.

you can find out more about Deborah Lippmann polishes at her website, www.deborahlippmann.com. the polishes retail for $20 there, and Just Dance is still available! Ulta and some high department stores also carry Deborah Lippmann, and i did see one onr clearance at Ulta... but since it was yet another glitter, i skipped it. definitely check your local Marshalls and TJ Maxx to see if they've gotten any!

it's SO cold and breezy here today, hope it's warm and lovely where you are! Ria :)

Probelle Into The Blue

super excited, i'm going to pick up a saddle today to try out! i'm really hoping it works for me because it's exactly how much i wanted to spend and really close to being the perfect saddle. there is one thing i wish it had, but i'm hoping it will work for me anyway :D

today i have Probelle Into The Blue to share with you all! i got it in this month's ipsy bag :) i haven't been doing posts on what i receive in my ipsy bags in awhile, should i bring them back? Into The Blue is a medium blue creme... and one of those devils to photograph! my camera always wants it to come out bright blue... no idea why. it goes on easily and is fully opaque in two coats. my problem was it refused to dry fully on me! i usually do topcoat right after i finish with the color, but i got involved in the saddle situation, and after an hour they were still smudgy. you can see on my ring finger that there are a few wrinkles... i suspect that is from the polish not being very dry when i added topcoat! i will say that getting polish to dry on me without topcoat is very difficult, no matter what brand you use. Into The Blue dries pretty shiny on its own, but looks even better with topcoat. plus, if you're like me, you will definitely need topcoat to dry it!

two coats Into The Blue, one coat Salon Perfect Crystal Clear Top Coat (press sample).

i had never hear of Probelle, but found their website, www.pro-belle.com, by Googling them :) their polishes retail for $6 and free shipping over $20! Into The Blue is on the site.

heading out now to pick up the saddle... found out another guy at my barn had the saddle last week on trial! oh, if only i'd known!

Happy Monday! Ria :)
