theBalm Haul, Swatches, & First Impressions!

i went over to Kohl's yesterday while i was out running around with Mama Pawlish. i've been wanting to try out theBalm makeup, but i never seem to be anywhere that sells it. the only brick and mortar store that i know of that sells theBalm in the US is Kohl's... so i decided to head in and check it out!

i was a bit overwhelmed (in the best way possible!) at all the offerings, but i decided to keep it to a couple face powders and a lipstick... my current obsessions. i love that their colored face powders are intended to double as eyeshadows... love having more uses for one product! i got Mary-Lou Manizer because i've so many people rave about it i just had to try it for myself, InStain Pinstripe because i was instantly smitten with the color, and theBalm Girls lipstick in Mai Billsbepaid because i can't control myself around nude lip products :D

here's what they look like in the packaging... then we'll get on to the products themselves! swatches of them all will be at the end of the post :)

Mary-Lou Manizer ~ $24

Mary-Lou Manizer has such an adorable box and compact... i just had to photograph the back of the box so you can see it, the compact has the same cute picture as the front of the box.

here's a look at Mary-Lou Manizer up close!

it's a beautiful light golden champagne powder that looks beautiful as a cheek highlighter, but also can be used as an eyeshadow! it's super soft, pigmented, and easy to blend. so glad i finally picked it up! i'm ultra fair, and i love how it looks on me. i think it's one of those colors that will be beautiful on you, no matter what your skin tone is!

InStain Pinstripe ~ $22

InStain Pinstripe is a beautiful plummy blush with super subtle golden shimmers. like the highlighter, this can be used as either a face product OR an eyeshadow! also like the highlighter, it's super smooth and pigmented. depending on the brush you use, you can get a sheer wash of color, or you can build it up as opaque as you could possibly want :)

Mai Billsbepaid ~ $17

lastly, we have the lipstick, Mai Billsbepaid. i love that the name and packaging plays on James Bond themes... theBalm Girls, starring James Balm and Mai Billsbepaid! if you're a Bond fan like me, that's a selling point for sure! i'm definitely hanging on to these boxes :) this is one of those lipsticks that look so different swatched on my arm than on my lips. on my arm, it looks like a darker nude... on my lips, it's totally a light pinky mauve, my lips but better! it's actually the most perfect match for my natural lip color that i've ever found :D

here are swatchies are of all three!

you can find theBalm on their website, www.theBalm.com. you can also find their products in store at Kohl's, and on the Kohl's website www.Kohls.com.

hope you all enjoyed this look at theBalm! i'm so glad i decided to give them a try. have you used any of their products? what do you recommend?? i'd love to try out your suggestions!

Happy Saturday! Ria :)

Pixi May 2015 Makeup Samples Swatches & Reviews!

did a little shopping with Mama Pawlish today! Tuesday Morning is having an extra 50% off clearance so of course we needed to check it out :) i did find anything too fantastic, but i did get a few things. i had a great jumping lesson with Echo last night, she was super amazing! i wanted to get this post up a couple days ago, but somehow both days got crazy busy... it's so weird how that happens. glad everything has a settled down.

today is Pixi blogger sample box day for May! (these are all press samples, kindly provided to me review). i'm slipping this post in just under the wire :D i actually got June's box today, can't wait to start testing that one out!

May's box looked like this...

you can check out the polish, Pixi Sweet Strawberry, HERE! the face products in May's box are the Brow Powder Palette and the Endless Silky Eye Intensify Duos in Brown Eye Intensify and Blue Eye Intensify.

here's a closer look a the Brow Powder Palette.

this palette has six powder color options to customize your own perfect brow color. i really like that are enough colors to match pretty much anyone's eyebrows... from a really light brow bone highlight to black! they aren't super pigmented, which i like in a brow powder... you go from a very sheer wash and build it up to ultra dramatic eyebrows. it comes with a dual ended brush with a sponge applicator on one side and an angle brush on the other. i used the angle brush on my brows, it works perfectly!

and now... the Endless Silky Eye Intensity Duos.

these double-ended pencils come in the shades Brown Eye Intensify and Blue Eye Intensify. the Brown Eye Intensify has is dark brown side and a copper shimmer side. Blue Eye Intensify has a blue-greY side and a pearly pink shimmer side. these pencils are fantastic, they are just like the regular Endless Silky Eye Pens... super creamy and easy to apply, and once dry, they aren't going anywhere! the colors are specially chosen to bring out either brown or blue eyes... but i recommend both these Intensify Duos, no matter what color eyes you have :D

here's the Duos swatched...

and here's a look created with the Brow Powder Palette and the Blue Eye Intensify Duo! i used the first and lightest shade of the Brow Powder Palette as my brown bone highlight, and a combination of the second and third colors to fill in my brows. i love the pink side of the Intensify Duo for an inner corner highlight, and i used the blue-greY side for a small cat eye.

you can find Pixi products at Target stores, www.Target.com, and www.PixiBeauty.com!! the Brow Powder Palette retails for $12 and the Eye Intensity Duos retail for $15. all of these already on the shelves at my local Targets :D

these posts always take the longest to put together, this one was a two day effort :) i love Pixi so much, and i'm so thankful to be able to share these products with you all. let me know if you try them out and what you think!

Happy Friday! Ria :)

Pixi Sweet Strawberry

i'm so happy! Mr. Pawlish and Mama Pawlish came out to the barn yesterday and fixed my locker :) one of the saddle racks was about to fall down, so they redid the whole thing... it's so much more user friendly now, it's awesome!

today i have Pixi Sweet Strawberry to share, it came in my Pixi sample box! (which means, it's a press sample, kindly provided to me for review). it's a ripe, juicy red creme... definitely makes you think of strawberries! it applies easily and is quite opaque at one coat, but i still prefer two. i recommend topcoat to extend the life your mani, but it's very glossy on its own!

two coats Sweet Strawberry, one coat of Salon Perfect Crystal Clear Top Coat. (both are press samples).

Pixi polishes retail for $8. you can find Pixi products at Target stores, www.Target.com, and  www.PixiBeauty.comTHIS is the direct link to the Pixi Beauty Nail Colour page!

next up... May's Pixi makeup blogger sample swatches and review! Ria :)

Dermelect Cosmeceuticals Memento Manicure Extender Top Coat and Revital-Oil Nail & Cuticle Treatment

nothing too exciting to report today... Mr. Pawlish has a four day weekend, though, which is awesome! we went and bought a new stand for our hermit crab tank today. i've finally accepted that the one i have is just too tall and unmanageable for a shortie like me :D

i have the two products from Dermelect Cosmeceuticals to share with you all today! (they are press samples, kindly provided to me for review). these two products are designed to work in conjunction with their color polishes to make the perfect manicure. they are the Memento Manicure Extender Top Coat and the Revital-Oil Nail & Cuticle Treatment.

let's kick off with the Memento Manicure Extender Top Coat! this topcoat dries to a nice a shine and really helps keep a manicure from chipping. i only had a little tip wear after wearing it for a few days... except for my nails that shredded because they are so weak. these polishes and treatments contains ingredients to help your nails' health, but it's not enough my ultra damaged nails, i would need to use a strengthening basecoat under it the mani. Dermelect recommends using two coats of topcoat to really help your mani last. after experimenting with both one and two coats, i found that two makes the polish way more shiny, but both ways help with keeping them from chipping. the company also recommends letting the topcoat dry for at least 8 minutes before moving on to the next step... Revital-Oil!

the Revital-Oil Nail & Cuticle Treatment is a nice easy way to moisturize your nails and cuticles. you shake it up really well, then apply to your cuticles with the brush... it works just like nail polish! it sinks in pretty quickly, but will leave the cuticles a bit shiny. i didn't use any photos i took with it on because i can't stand shiny cuticles in pictures :D

Dermelect Cosmeceuticals challenges people to use their products and only complete a manicure in only 20 minutes... i found that it's definitely possible to do it that quickly, but i'm a slow poke. i tend to watch tv and take my time while painting my nails, so speed isn't super important to me.

you can purchase Dermelect products at their website, www.Dermelect.com. their color polishes and Revital-Oil retail for $14, the topcoat retails for $16!

hope you've all enjoyed this week's look into the Dermelect Cosmeceuticals brand... have a fantastic weekend! Ria :)

Dermelect Cosmeceuticals All Decked Out... A Shore Thing

it's a rainy day here in Maryland... which works out well for me since i had my pinkie joint injected with steroids this morning! i have really high hopes that it will stop hurting now. it's a bit numb and bruised now, but in a couple days it should be much better :) *fingers crossed!*

A Shore Thing is the of the Dermelect Cosmeceuticals All Decked Out collection! (it's a press sample, kindly provided to me for review). it's a very sheer peachy pink... i guess it would be considered a creme because it has no sparkle, but it's ULTRA sheer. i used three coats and still could easily see my nails through it. i really didn't care for this polish on me... i feel it just showed off how stained yellow my nails are. although, it looks nice in the swatch picture! it did apply easily, and with thin coats patchiness wasn't a problem at all. it's super glossy with two coats of Dermelect's topcoat!

three coats A Shore Thing, two coats Dermelect Memento Manicure Extender Top Coat. (both are press samples).

you can purchase Dermelect products at their website, www.Dermelect.com. their color polishes retail for $14, the topcoat retails for $16!

this is the last of A Shore Thing collection... my favorite is definitely All Decked Out! what's your fave? coming up next is the Dermelect Cosmeceuticals nail treatments! Ria :)

Dermelect Cosmeceuticals All Decked Out... Dune My Thing

did a little bit of swatching this morning and i have to head out to my riding lesson in 45 minutes or so. before then, i wanted to get a post up! i'm super happy because i was able to get an appointment with the hand doctor for tomorrow... hopefully they will inject my fingers and they won't hurt anymore :) i waited a bit longer than i should have probably... but at least i'm going now right? ;)

today's Dermelect Cosmeceuticals All Decked Out polish is Dune My Thing! (it's a press sample, kindly provided to me for review). it's a lavender-toned taupe creme... i really like it! the key with this brand's polishes is thin coats... and even with that, it was opaque in two coats. Dermelect recommends using two coats of their topcoat, and i have to say, it makes the polish WAY more shiny!

two coats Dune My Thing, two coats Dermelect Memento Manicure Extender Top Coat. (both are press samples).

you can purchase Dermelect products at their website, www.Dermelect.com. their color polishes retail for $14, the topcoat retails for $16!

already looking forward to Mr. Pawlish's four day weekend... so excited! do you guys have anything awesome planned for the weekend? Ria :)

Dermelect Cosmeceuticals All Decked Out... Fant-A-Sea

had a not so great day today... so i'm just looking forward to tomorrow and getting to start all over again! sometimes it's hard to stay positive... but i'm really trying :)

today i have Fant-A-Sea from Dermelect Cosmeceuticals All Decked Out collection to share! (it's a press sample, kindly provided to me for review). it's a pale peach shimmer that can pull a bit more orange in some lights! this is one you're going to want to be really careful in application to avoid patchiness; also, make sure not to make your coats too thick. that will cause wrinkling upon dry down. you will definitely want to use topcoat with this one to bring out all those sparkles!

two coats Fant-A-Sea, one coat Dermelect Memento Manicure Extender Top Coat. (both are press samples).

you can purchase Dermelect products at their website, www.Dermelect.com. their color polishes retail for $14, the topcoat retails for $16!

i hope everyone has a FANTASTIC Wednesday! Ria :)

Dermelect Cosmeceuticals All Decked Out... Lazy Daze

it was so nice to have a three day weekend with Mr. Pawlish... and he has a four day weekend this week for Memorial Day! we went and saw Pitch Perfect 2 on Friday and i LOVED it :) i've heard a lot of people didn't care for it, but i think it's awesome. already excited for it to come out on DVD!

today i have Lazy Daze from the Dermelect Cosmeceuticals All Decked Out collection to share! (it's a press sample, kindly provided to me for review). it's a beige creme with strong orange undertones... on me, it looks like a bandaid color. it's opaque in two coats, but make sure not to make the coats super thick... it will wrinkle under top coat if it's too thick! it's shiny on its own, but way better with top coat!

two coats Lazy Daze, one coat Dermelect Memento Manicure Extender Top Coat. (both are press samples).

you can purchase Dermelect products at their website, www.Dermelect.com. their color polishes retail for $14, the topcoat retails for $16!

i have the other three polishes from the All Decked Out collection to share, and we'll finish off with their topcoat and cuticle oil... so check back often!

Happy Monday! Ria :)

Influenster CoverGirl VoxBox

i'm excited for tomorrow because Mr. Pawlish is taking the day off :) he is going to an Ulta grand opening with me AND taking me to see Pitch Perfect 2... he's the best! Mama Pawlish is gone for a couple days to go to a friend's graduation, so it's just us and the puppies for a little while. the dogs are really missing her, both of them are trying to sit on top of me while i write!

today i have the Influenster CoverGirl VoxBox to share with you all! these products were sent to me for review as part of Influenster's campaign :) the contents of the box were the CoverGirl The Super Sizer mascara and the CoverGirl Intensify Me! liquid liner.

here's what they look like in the packaging...

and out of it!

here i am wearing both products :) all i have on my eyes on than these two products is a light layer of cream eye base, just to even out my lids. i don't have on any lash primer!

let's start off with the problems with both of these products... they cannot hold up to any sort of moisture. they don't seem to be affected by skin oils, but if you sweat, cry, or get caught in the rain... prepare for smudging and raccoon eyes. even Mr. Pawlish, who never notices my makeup said... your mascara is running! that's pretty huge. because of this, i'm not a fan of either product... but i have seen a review raving about the liner, so products definitely work differently for different people! let's break them down now.

CoverGirl The Super Sizer mascara in Very Black is just that... extremely pigmented and black. i definitely like that! it does a pretty good job of thickening and lengthening on its own, and is even better over a lash primer. however, the primer still doesn't prevent it from running easily. also, if it gets in your eyes it BURNS!

the wand is kind of twisted... there is a flat wide side, and a skinnier side... not sure how to describe it, but here it is in pictures!

CoverGirl Intensify Me! liquid liner in Intense Black, is black, but not quite as pigmented as i would prefer. this is a marker style wet liner with an inflexible tip, a style which i have had trouble getting to work well for me from other brands (including some very high end!). i don't find them to work well over shadows or even just cream bases... and i need to have a little something on my lids to cover veins... my lid skin is very sheer. the liner also starting skipping, so then there were patchy areas to try and cover... basically, i feel i can achieve the same look in less time and with far less aggravation with another product. the hook of this product is that the wand has a flat paddle side and a very thin side to make lines of differing thickness... but i had trouble getting the thin side to put out enough product. i also found the paddle a bit awkward to work with... i definitely prefer a traditional brush or a pointed tip to this!

here's a look at the applicator.

these two products will be launching nationwide in the US July 15... they are currently available online at Walmart... and i have seen these on an endcap display instore, and it looked a bit picked over, so people are definitely buying these products! have you tried them? what did you think?

i'm bummed that neither of these products worked for me, i hope you have better luck! Ria :)

Balm Chicky Balm Balm

i'm so excited today because my brother officially enlisted in the National Guard! it's a huge step for him, and i think it will go a long way towards making him a better life in the future. he even got into the section he wanted which works with computers... it's just awesome :D

today i have a new all natural lip balm brand to share with you all. it's called Balm Chicky Balm Balm and originally debuted on the tv show Shark Tank... although it wasn't picked up on there, the brand struck out on its own and is getting their product in Target stores across the US! i love that! i also love their cute 70s vibe packaging and marketing :)

i was sent the Wild Mountain Honey and Clementine and the Sweet Baby Ginger flavors to review... i love getting the opportunity to try out brands i might never have heard of otherwise! Wild Mountain Honey and Clementine smells strongly of honey, i don't get very much a citrus vibe from it. Sweet Baby Ginger smells just like spicy ginger... i love it :)

the tubes and the balm itself are much larger than traditional balms, feels like two or three times the size! i wasn't sure if i would like super-size... but i do! it's so easy and comfortable to swipe on the lips. the balms apply very smoothly after the first couple applications... i find most balms have hardened wax at the very top. they are slick on the lips, not sticky at all. these aren't 'slimy' (for lack of a better word) to use at night for me, i like something ultra thick at night. you will need to reapply after eating or more often if you rub your lips together constantly like it do! that's a nervous habit i just can't kick.

perhaps the most exciting thing about Balm Chicky Balm Balms is their Friend End... the other side of the tube opens up and has a little pot of balm perfect for sharing. that way you don't have share the same tube when someone around you needs lip balm... it's genius! i also love the Friend End to use on my cuticles... these balms make great, easy to use cuticle moisturizers.

you can find and purchase Balm Chicky Balm Balms at their website, http://balmchicky.com/, and some Target stores, currently they aren't on Target's website. check on the Balm Chicky to see if any Targets near you have them yet! the closet store to me doesn't have them yet, i'm hoping they'll get them. they retail for $7.

have you tried Balm Chicky Balm Balm yet? what did you think?? Ria :)

China Glaze Electric Nights... Let The Beat Drop

instead of going to the barn today i'm heading into Washington DC to bring my brother some paperwork he needs... definitely way less fun than riding! i'm already booked up the rest of the week, so it had to be today. since he has exams today, Mama Pawlish and i will have to go completely into the city... i'm just hoping we won't be sitting in traffic for hours!

today we have the final China Glaze Electric Nights polish, Let The Beat Drop! (it's a press sample, kindly provided to me for review). it is a differing sizes hex glitter in shades of pink and orange, suspended in a clear base. i applied one coat with some placing to get rid of bare patches... still got some bubbling. i suspect the problem could be with the person doing applying, rather than the polish itself ;) i love it over China Glaze Treble Maker (press sample), the green makes the pink and orange pop. because of the sheerness of some of the pink glitter, it turns purple over the green, adding even more dimension. definitely seal everything in with topcoat!

two coats Let The Beat Drop over Treble Maker, finished off with one coat Salon Perfect Crystal Clear Top Coat. (all are press samples).

you can find China Glaze products in salons and professional beauty stores... my favorite place to buy China Glaze is Sally Beauty Supply!

i hope you've enjoyed this look at the China Glaze Electric Nights collection, i'm so thankful for the opportunity to share it!

Happy Wednesday! Ria :)

China Glaze Electric Nights... Treble Maker

this week is so exciting because my friend is coming to Maryland for a wedding, and i'll get to see her! she lives in Illinois, so let's call her Illinois Pawlish :) we met working for the National Park Service back when i was a park ranger. we rarely get to see each other... i haven't seen her since we met up while i was on the way to California like three years ago! so happy!!

today's China Glaze Electric Nights polish is Treble Maker! (it's a press sample, kindly provided to me for review). can we just take a moment and talk about the name?! how awesome is it that it hearkens to the Treblemakers from Pitch Perfect :D i'm SO EXCITED to see Pitch Perfect 2 when it comes out later this month... hope it lives up to the first one! now, on to Treble Maker. it's a kelly green creme that looks more warm in some lights, and almost sea foamy in others! the formula is fantastic, really easy to apply and completely opaque in two coats. it dries shiny on its own, but i still recommend topcoat :)

two coats Treble Maker, Salon Perfect Crystal Clear Top Coat. (both are press samples).

China Glaze Electric Nights... Plur-Ple

i don't know how this weekend has just flown by... Mr. Pawlish even had a three day weekend, and it still flew. we are currently just hanging out watching tv while i did my nails and now am blogging :)

today's China Glaze Electric Nights polish is Plur-Ple! (it's a press sample, kindly provided to me for review). it's a warm purple creme... but you might have guessed that by the name :D personally, i really enjoy just saying plurple! this was a bit more sheer than others in the collection, but still was pretty opaque at two coats. i did notice it was a bit thin at the tips, even though i wrapped them. it's got a bit of shine on its own, but it's better still with topcoat. it's far shinier than it looks in the swatch... to get the most accurate color i had to take the picture in regular indoor lighting and that never fails to make the polish look dull!

two coats Plur-Ple, Salon Perfect Crystal Clear Top Coat. (both are press samples).

you can find China Glaze products in salons and professional beauty stores... my favorite place to buy China Glaze is Sally Beauty Supply!

only two polishes to go in the Electric Nights collection... a glitter and a creme! Ria :)

China Glaze Electric Nights... DJ Blue My Mind

Mr. Pawlish took a surprise day off of work yesterday, which meant we spent the day together :) poor guy got dragged to Ulta and the tack store, though... he's a good sport! his cell phone completely bit the dust so he got a new one for the first time in years... he went to from a Samsung Galaxy S2 to the brand new S6... he's a very happy guy :D

today's China Glaze Electric Nights polish is DJ Blue My Mind! (it's a press sample, kindly provided to me for review). it's a gorgeous blue creme with a strong green undertone. because of that green undertone, my camera freaked and wanted to photograph it as light blue... it's a bit more tealish than it looks in the swatch picture! it applies easily and is completely opaque in two coats. it's shiny on its own, but it's even better with topcoat!

one coat DJ Blue My Mind,  Salon Perfect Crystal Clear Top Coat. (both are press samples).
